CaptCarl's "Breakfast Ride" to the Cape Horn Restaurant - September 13, 2009
[Added: 09.14.09]

The Mid-Atlantic Mob (Maryland Contingent) went on a rather spur-or-the-moment "Breakfast Ride". (At least it was spur of the moment to me...)

CaptCarl led us "over the river and through the woods" and down gravel pig trails, and up washed out, potholed paths to...

Cape Horn Restaurant
601 Lombard Street
Red Lion, PA 17356
(717) 246-6314

Was that his original destination? It was not. But the restaurant he'd found on his Zumo turned out to be non-existent. So we stopped at a convenience store and asked a local for a recommendation, and...

Voila!

There we were...

The food was above average and a good value for the dollar. We're putting it on the list of "Good Eats".

While we were eating, our new Harley Ultra Classic trike-riding friend Mary told us about an interesting ride destination:

Andy Griffith's home town of - Mount Airy, North Carolina!

Mount Airy's home page invites you to "Step back to a simpler time when you visit Mount Airy. Actor Andy Griffith grew up here, and it's no coincidence that a stroll down Mount Airy's Main Street reminds people of the town of Mayberry from The Andy Griffith Show."

September 24-27, 2009 is Mount Airy's 20th Annual Mayberry Days.

I always wondered what the "R.F.D." in "Mayberry RFD" stood for. CaptCarl filled me in - it stands for "Rural Free Delivery". Wikipedia has a page about The Andy Griffith Show & Mayberry R.F.D.
