Chubby's Meet 'n' Greet 'n' Eat - July 12, 2009
[Added: 07.13.09]

Back around the 4th of July, I get a call on my cell phone. Caller ID says it's "Wheels" (not his real name) but the voice is that of Pop N Fresh (also - not his real name). Turns out they were at the Shady Maple in East Earl, PA when they got to collaboratin' on a "Family Ride".

They figured it was time for a ride for some barbecue. But apparently, neither one of them wanted to be responsible for "roundin' up the troops" (as it were) - so they decided that I should "volunteer". Hence... the phone call...

Later on that day, I was perusing the General forum on GL1800Riders when I found a thread entitled "Chubby's Bar-B-Que (by Margarita Will)".

What the !@#$%@#$%?!?!

Well... Apparently plans for the ride were well under way...

Without the knowledge of the Road Captain (and Capo) Margarita Will... Me!

What else is family for?!?!

Well... I now knew when the ride was - I just didn't know what the route was going to be. Fortunately for me, back in September 2007 we'd had a "Family Gathering" in Thurmont, MD - and brother "Detour" (not his real name, either) had put together a nice li'l 130+ mile trip through the Catoctin Mountains - and beyond... So I dusted off his route and...

Voila!

Another installment of the Mid-Atlantic Mob's "Ride-to-Eat/Eat-to-Ride" series!

At 9:00a.m. Sebringdcp (you guessed it... not his real name) & RRIXX (almost his real name) met me at a local Exxon station & we headed over to "The Family Compound" to meet up with "captcarl", "The Astute Reader(tm) & Mrs. "Wheels". By 10:00a.m. we were geared up and headed for our lunch date at Chubby's.

I'd planned a route to Chubby's that would take us over several picturesque one lane bridges in Western Maryland - where I forced everyone to stop so I could collect the requisite photographic evidence...

We arrived at Chubby's at the appointed hour of noon o'clock...

Chubby's

We had a great turn out! Besides the folks I'd traveled with, we were met a Chubby's by:

  • "Pop N Fresh" & his wife "Patti Crocker"
Great idea, Pop N Fresh, I mean Wheels... I mean Pop N Fresh - I mean...
  • Roger & Carole Jeremiah
  • Tom Walk (& his buddy Tom)
  • Chris & Arlene Harvey
  • "LeeD"
Lee, I swear I'll come up to Reading, PA to buy that seat from you... Soon... Really! I mean it!
  • "tomp913"
  • "Taz1800"
George rode over 300 miles from Long Island to join us for lunch - Thanks, Taz!
  • "HONDA JOHN"
I believe John had 2nd highest mileage to lunch - coming from Ringoes, NJ - but he came in his truck... What's up with that?!?! Sorry I got hijacked at lunch and didn't make it back to "our" table...
  • "Detour"
Thanks for the route, my friend! It was a good 'un.
  • "notact" (and his daughter)
  • "tourit"
  • "bzirk" and his wife Mary Beth
  • "superjett" & his wife Karen
  • "Oldbuc"
  • and another individual who I don't think I was ever introduced to...

Unfortunately, not everyone was able to make the ride, so after lunch, about 18 of us took off for a cruise through the Catoctins...
