A member of one of the southern "Families" approached us - hoping to create a market in the Mid-Atlantic region for a uniquely southern "appellation". Something that will, hopefully, "spread the wealth" to the Mid-Atlantic Mob.

And as long as the corn crops don't all go toward producing ethanol, I believe this product has some potential for this region!

For security reasons we can't use his "real" family name. We'll just refer to him as... uh... Wisconsin Willy! (Yeah... Wisconsin Willy... a/k/a Wi-Willy... that's the ticket!)

Our problem was how to arrange a meeting between this southern family member - Wi-Willy - and members of the Mid-Atlantic Mob. Without alerting every Federal agency between Baltimore and Knoxville...

The Astute Reader(tm) (a/k/a "The Manual") was contacted to create a smoke screen for the Feds. He spread the word that "La Famiglia" would be meeting at an undisclosed Starbucks, allegedly in Timonium, Maryland supposedly for a ride to the Route 74 Restaurant - rumored to be in Dover, Pennsylvania.

Capo "Margarita Will" met the family at Starbucks and checked to make sure the area was clear of Feds.

The Capo then escorted the new family members to the "Family Compound"...

...where Consigliere Wheels was waiting to receive the "goods".

After receiving the delivery, "La Famiglia" rode to the real destination - The Mason Dixon Family Restaurant in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania.

We anticipated trouble getting our southern brother across the Mason Dixon line, but that boundary was crossed without so much as a whimper... that we could hear... over his CB... through the static... (as far as we could tell...)

He didn't even try to order sweet tea at the restaurant! (or hush puppies, or grits, or catfish, or "greens", or...)

Here, you can see "Wi-Willy" trying to avoid capture on film by hiding behind the Consigliere.

Fortunately, that's pretty easy... The Consigliere has the biggest head I've ever seen!

The meal was over too soon, and it was time to bid good-bye to our "paisano" from down south.

"The Astute Reader(tm)" escorted TNCha... er... Wi-Willy to the highway so he could meet another commitment of his. "T-bug" made a quick getaway, "SSNJim" did a quick fade and the Consigliere, Capo & "captcarl" returned to the "Family Compound" to test the quality of "Wi-Willy"'s product. I believe Wi-Willy referred to it as Korn Likker (or something like that...)

Careful now, "Wheels"!

I did notice that he listened carefully for ticking sounds before opening the box, though. You just can't be too careful - even with members of the "Borgata"

Traditionally, we would sniff the cork. In this case, the screw-off lid...

A mouth's-eye view of the libation

After numerous samples of this "Korn Likker", Consigliere "Wheels" declared "Dis stuff is good!".

It was getting late, the floor was starting to swirl (kidding!) and so were the snow flakes outside (not kidding!). Consigliere Wheels had wisely arranged for a small snow fall to hide the departure from the "Family Compound" of Capo "Margarita Will" & "captcarl".

Postscript...

This whole thing started innocently enough when "Wheels" prodded "The Astute Reader(tm)" into putting together a lunch ride after "Blondie" started the first "Who from Maryland is here?" thread in the "Maryland (MD)" forum of the new vBulletin-powered GL1800Riders.com forum.

He did a great job coordinating all the logistics problems that are part of putting together a group ride for such an independent bunch as Goldwing riders...

He came up with:

  • A meeting place
  • A restaurant - as the destination
  • Several different routes to get us to the food
  • Included MapSource routes for people whose GPS' could us 'em!

...and posted it all in the "Rides, Trips and Events" forum - entitled "Central Maryland Lunch Run - Sat, Dec 6th".

We ended up not riding to the original restaurant, but...

I had a great time with some new friends who I hope to ride with again - and a great visit with an ol' friend TNCharlie - who surprised the @#$%@# out of us by showing up!

Oh... BTW... Charlie... I got a new "avatar" for ya'...
